The edgeBOX offers Schools and other educational institutions the ability to connect to the global Internet, provides email and other collaborative tools as well as offer web-based capabilities to develop communities based on shared interests. In fact, the edgeBOX is widely enabling an effective communication avenue between students, between students and staff and also between staff and parents. Of course, core networking services such as telephony and secure networking can also be delivered using the same edgeBOX.
The edgeBOX also provides the ability to filter access to inappropriate material on the web, while also blocking annoying spam (junk email).
The edgeBOX has been successfully deployed in Schools since its early market introduction in 2006. In fact, recently over 1200 schools in Portugal are installing the edgeBOX, with several thousand more slated to do so in the near future. It is being used as the access gateway to the Internet, for hosting a school Intranet, and also providing a public website.
Schools, like their commercial SMB counterparts, have limited IT budget and staff. The edgeBOX squarely addresses this issue by reducing the initial investment, and also by almost eliminating the on-going costs due to the inherent simplicity in managing it.
